Long Weekend Camping Trip

Well as I had mentioned before Fred and I planned going camping over the long weekend.

Our weekend started with me taking Fred into work at 6:30 so I could have the van to load. I couldn't believe how much stuff I had packed into the van - clothes, dishes, food, bikes, chairs, bedding, books, tents, and on and on.....it took me all day (minus time for a shower and an hour nap) to get the van loaded and out the door at 4:45 to go pick up Fred.

It was hot and humid and we were both already tired when we got to our camping site - it was okay - we would like a more private site next time - we had people all around us except to the one side - but it would have to do. First it rained - yep it rained as soon as we got there - but then stopped. We then decided we would first put up the tarp then the tent and mattress and then start dinner. Well.....the tarp is HUGE! and we couldn't get it tight enough (tying it to four trees in a rectangle) and it practical covered our entire site - it was too big....so after an HOUR of trying we decided to forget it - on to the tent.....well it was our first time putting it up and at this put we are both hot and sweaty and losing our patients - but we managed to get up without any big fights (I only had to walk away once! ;)

Then it was time for supper and of course Amy had this great dinner of chicken and potatoes planned to cook on the BBQ - well they wouldn't cook very fast - and it took an hour just for those - so it was 8:30 before we got to eat! Too funny!
After that though things seem to go fine - just some craziness at the beginning that we good for a laugh.
The bathrooms weren't that far away - maybe 3 min walk....but with the bikes like a minute at tops. But --- too funny --- that night we were sitting by the camp fire roasting marshmallows for our smores when Fred's tire blew on his bike - we were no where near it! Too funny - we brough his bike all the way there for it to decided - nope not going to ride me! So we have to get that fixed for our next camping adventure....yes I'm actually going to go back and try it again!
So it was sooooo hot and humid that we just laid in bed looking up at the stars (our tent is almost completely made of screen and you can put a rain cover over that if you want - but when its that hot you don't want to) we both started to drift off to sleep - like 1 in the morning - when all of a sudden an animal made this eery screechy sound right beside the tent - first thing I did - grabbed a hold of fred. He told me he thought it was a raccon so I wanted to see it - we got the flashlight out and couldn't find it at first - but it turned out to be a male cat in heat! too funny! Anyways we scared him off (he did come back once more just to wake us up I think). Then I'm just starting to fall back asleep when BOOM - someone close by let a firecracker off and scared me sooo bad - I jumped of course! I did see it - it was red - Fred was like thats not cool - and I said well I saw it and he was like "was it nice" and I said "I don't know I was too scared to enjoy it!"
We got rained on a couple of times through out the night - and of course the rain made me have to go pee so had to get in it - we put the rain cover on the last time - but it sure did caught off a lot of the breeze!

We woke up the next morning at 8:30 - too early considering we were up all night! We had bacon and eggs on the bbq and bagels and cream cheese - we were both really hunger for some reason. Then we did our only little church service since we didn't go to church and then packed things up and went to the beach. It took awhile to get there - I was thankful we drove! It wasn't that crazy when we first got there and were able to find a spot on the beach not so close to other couples/families. But when we left the parking lot was packed and the beach was getting crowded! And we are not talking a little beach - you can't see the end of the beach either way you look - its crazy! The water was cold but refreshing - we didn't stay in long though since I am prone to ear infections right now I didn't want to go under water - just in case. We both ended up with sun burns from sitting out in the sun for too long - but it was fun. We stopped at the park store for some ice cream and then headed back to the site to take a nap - oh man was it warm though!

Once we were up we decided to play some Boogle and then started supper - hambugers - much easier this time!

Fred wasn't able to get Monday off so that meant he would have to leave the camp site early in the morning - leaving me to pack everything up later on - I didn't like the sound of that....plus Fred needed a good nights sleep so we decided to pack up Sunday night and go home - not cause we hated the experience - but just so we could get a good nights sleep and not have me doing all the work again! I was so thankful to get home to the a/c and have help unloading everything!

We both agreed to try camping again at the end of July - but I request a site with electricity so I could have a fan at night and a light to use and not worry about batteries, etc.

So thats a long story about our camping trip - but it was fun! We had our moments - loved having Fred to myself - no phones, internet whatever. We did a lot of talking - which was good with all the changes or decisions we have to make. All in all I enjoyed myself.

I spent Monday - doing lots of laundry and cleaning and trying to catch up on sleep!
